It doesn’t take someone who knows a lot about weather to look at this map and know colder weather is coming!

A significant arctic air intrusion will likely happen across much of the country by late next week. Ensembles are in line with this, and our first major dose of arctic air will likely take over much of the U.S. for at least a few days.

Given the evolution of the global pattern and the placement of the high pressure over the Arctic, there are indications that this could be a prolonged and deep cold spell. If you look at the projected jet stream at this time, I think you can start placing strong bets on some pretty substantial winter storms pretty far south by the latter parts of January. It’s something to watch. We’re certainly keeping an eye on it!
