Big System To Bring Big Impacts
Snow and severe weather both possible across broad swaths of the Plains.
This week will feature yet another big winter system that will bring varied impacts depending on which side of the system you are on. Anything from a major winter storm to severe weather is possible from this one.
After we discuss that, let’s discuss February as a whole.

Looking Ahead to February
This system will be the last one of the month for the Plains, and then the focus can entirely turn to February.

I don’t think we’re done with winter blasts in late February, as it is pretty likely we’ll see a couple more pretty significant shots of winter air diving south in March. I suspect it’ll take a bit to get into a spring pattern. But, if the warmer weather does verify into the second half of the month, let’s make sure to enjoy it.
This stunning white tornado, known as a “ghost tornado,” touched down near Olustee in SW Oklahoma on May 23, 2024, quickly growing into a large stovepipe over primarily open land. Its striking white appearance was caused by sunlight illuminating the condensation funnel, creating a vivid contrast against the dark storm clouds. Tornadoes like this often remain clean and bright over open areas, picking up minimal debris, which adds to their ghostly, mesmerizing look. Watch as this powerful force of nature evolves in real time—a breathtaking reminder of the beauty and intensity of severe weather!
