While this isn’t the absolute coldest airmass we’ve ever seen, it is on the colder end of the spectrum of what is possible for sure.
I suspect this is probably our coldest air of the winter overall. We are set to see some pretty big warming take shape up in our arctic air source region later this next week and, while it may not feel like it, our average highs are actually on the way up now. Both of these trends will take us into February where we’ll likely never warm up too much — but we likely won’t bottom out like this again either.
But that doesn’t make it warmer tonight. Hope you are all staying warm!
