I am Winter's Vengeance
...Or how Mr. Freeze is making his way down through the middle of the country.
You either die the hero or live long enough to become the villain.
And in this case, I am here to deliver bad news: it’s about to get really cold across much of the middle of the country. Some areas will see their lowest temperatures of the season most likely, but EVERYONE will see the longest duration cold snap of the season on the Southern Plains.
But there’s good news at the end of this, I promise.
But First…
Titan Supporters Club Members on our YouTube channel can listen to me riff about the upcoming season and give some less polished thoughts on what I’ll say about it in my outlook. Click the video thumbnail above to join.
We have decided to make that space our ‘premium’ offering in 2025. This is the absolute best way to say thank you to us, and we’ll deliver content early and exclusively to all members.
But That Cold…
It’s, uh, going to get cold. How cold? Check out these low temperatures according to the NBM:
The lows on Wednesday morning are bone chilling. Single digits as far south as the Red River!
But then it is slightly colder Thursday morning!
By Friday morning, we’ll be entering what is known as the Arctic Circle Spring, with most areas warming by 10 degrees Fahrenheit or more.
Ok So It’s Going to Get Cold, Please Tell Me…Snow?
The good news is, we won’t entirely have the worst winter weather imaginable (at least some of us), with a winter storm expected to coincide with the cold. Wherever the snowpack ends up will determine who gets the coldest temps, but the practical difference in 1-11 degrees farenheit is only noticed by polar bears at heart.
Joking aside, this is a very dangerous winter chill in places that don’t see cold on this level more than once a year (at best).
Today is the time to make last-minute preparations. Pets should be brought indoors if at all possible. If you have exposed pipes, now is the time to do the things needed to prevent them from freezing up and bursting. Make sure your neighbors have ways to stay warm. Know carbon monoxide best practices.
Basically, prepare for several days of extreme cold like you’ve done many times in the past. Hopefully we can avoid the seemingly inevitable outcome of pets and people dying from exposure this time around.
There Is Good News
It almost feels like this cold snap is the Arctic’s last attempt to give us bone-chilling weather. After this cold snap, models and large pattern indicators are all in on well above-normal temperatures to close out the month. This is likely the start of “warm more days than not” season.
