Documenting tornadoes is an art that uses science. To get into the best and most photogenic locations you have to know the local road network, a lot about storm structure and behavior, and you have to be really great at forecasting days that tend to produce tornadoes like this. Getting visible tornadoes with classic processes happening in front of you only happens a handful of times each Spring. This is a moment filled with anxiety and wonder. Seeing a funnel descend makes you say a small prayer while also feeling a rush of excitement about a forecast well made. One of the things we try to do is document storms and then repackage our findings for education of the public. There is still too much tornado illiteracy in tornado-prone areas. #weather #tornado #science #oklahoma
