Why do you start at surface and then go 850 to 700 to 500 in that order? That seems semi-backwards…?
Hey Jenn! These are the mb levels in the atmosphere. So like on model maps you have 850, 700, 500, etc. — The pressure is actually higher near the surface vs. up top, so the numbers are higher near surface for mb pressure levels and lower as you go up into the atmosphere.
Thanks
You are very welcome!
Thanks mate! I need to know Hodographs for my Mechanics course, but now I understand the main concepts thanks to your video. :)
Love the hodograph mini intro. Question: How should one think of the various heights in the atmosphere from the hodograph plots? Are they like the normal 250mb-800mb? Or are they just localized short ‘stair steps’ in km? Thanks Ben May
Just like the normal atmospheric heights in every way!
Always had trouble understanding how to read Hodograhs, this just rang the bell for me, now for the rest. Thanks Chris
Thanks a bunch for posting this intro video to understanding hodographs. Question: according to the chart in the video, are the two inner circles indicating the surface and the outer three are the millibar level? Btw, I was with a storm chasing tour during that Supercell at the beginning of your video in Leoti, Kansas. That was killer!
Please explain Shear Vector again? I'm sorry, I know you said it's pretty simple but I can't understand it for some reason. Don't laugh!! hahaha
well explained!
Loved this! Great basic explanation. Easy to follow
Why starting Angle in southu side direction
