Wedges bro…wedges! Bowdle, SD EF4 on May 22, 2010
The motion of a violent wedge tornado is hard to describe to those who haven’t seen it in person. It’s like a violent, sadistic, evil carousel with chaotic motion through an area up to a mile in width. It’s almost like an entire thunderstorm decided to plot it’s updraft on the ground, and it’s impossible to fathom the amount of power being released by a violent wedge tornado. Bowdle, South Dakota was one of the most well photographed and photogenic wedge tornadoes in history. Brandon Sullivan was a busy man on that day, and he captured the tornado from close range (within a mile) here.
