Cool image alert: Radar inside of hurricane hunter aircraft investigation Isaac

August 23, 2012 |  by

While investigating Tropical Storm Isaac earlier today, Hurricane Hunter Aircraft personnel took a quick moment to snap this picture of a radar image from inside of the plane — giving a rare look into the plane and how it’s crews run. I personally hate flying, but it’s totally on the bucket list to try to get on one of these flights in my lifetime!

  1. I HAVE been on one of the hurricane flights, and it’s one incredible experience. You can see the huge swells on the ocean emanating from the storm as you approach it, and the unusual look of the clouds actually inside the storm. The eye …. well that’s a definite experience. The bouncing and jolting suddenly stop as you enter it … until you reach the other side. I got on the flight as a free lance photographer doing a story on the flights and Hurricane Bonnie in 1998. I’m back on the list again too. If you ever get an opportunity to fly with them … do it. The amazing sights outside the plane will definitely distract you from any hatred of flying :)
